Sustainable Routine

Continue to use words as long as possible, however at any time pictures and visual cues can be used together to assist in giving a useful cue. Cues are essentially ways to give instructions without having to rely on words. Pictures of loved ones or even staff that can be seen and matched up with names.

Cues can be music too. Consider using calming music for mealtimes and upbeat dance music for activities.

Phil is a volunteer at an Area Agency on Aging I have the privilege of knowing. He spends a bit of time making music lists and CD's for those with Memory loss and many people who just enjoy his selections. Combining his gift of knowing music so well and the knowledge from music therapists who have told me the place to start with music for people with memory loss is to take songs from their teenage years and early twenties. Play those and expand form there. Here we will list several songs by year that could get you started and lead to more your loved one likes:
